Bison Machine Cover300

General Information.

Conceived in a single family wigwam on the far eastern reaches of the city of Detroit, and thrust from the birth canal in a dusty basement in Hamtramck, Bison Machine giveth and Bison Machine taketh away.

No Prisoners; no one survives. Liveshows are things of wonderment. Volume, blues, saturation. That is the prevailing ethos. Hamtramck’s own rock spectacle, heavy and melodic. Things are broken, blood is spilled, clothes and loin cloths are rent from bodies, antler and hides are prevalent.

Picture a small child raised on the delta blues since birth, then force fed Zeppelin and Sabbath til they could no longer move, then beaten and whipped with Kyuss, Pentagram, Earthless, Dead Meadow, Willie and Waylon, Queens of the stone age and Thin Lizzy, until one day, the child rears its ugly bruised and mishapen head perched upon its grizzled, muscular, agromegalic body rippling with virility, shrugs of it’s chains, and runs down Jos Campau naked, riding a sabertooth tiger.

This is the music that poor soul would be singing.

Bison Machine.

…and no one survives.

General Information.

On doomsday 2012 this hermit baby was born and drones through the dusty franconian desert since then. Sonora Ritual is a 4-piece combo that throws together different influences and styles of heavy music by combining atmospheric trips with massive riffage.

Keeping it raw and stricly lo-fi this band does the recordings by itself and released their debut album ‘worship the sun’ in 2013 which became a popular freebie download real quickly.
Trying to keep things simple these guys don’t come along with any overblown adjectives that describe their sound.
It’s up to you, to make your own opinion.

Grab a beer and follow the hermits footsteps to see what you’ll find.

General Information.

Domadora is a psychedelic heavy rock trio created in 2011 by two passionate improvisators: Gui Omm (bass) and Belwil (vocal & guitar). Karim (drums) joined them in late 2012.

The band invokes the spirit of La Domadora (female lion-tamer in Spanish) to ease and master wild psychedelic jam sessions. The repertoire is at the crossroad of heavy rock and ‘70s psychedelic stoner rock.

The 3 ‘tamers’ compose with intention to lead you to trance state and they wonder: ‘Why lock ourselves in short songs ? Why be afraid of time ? Why freeze music ?’ The trio spills its guts to guide the process of composition.

Their show at La Miroiterie in Paris Fr (supporting Gnod) got Domadora noticed. This performance brought them straight to ‘Stoned Gatherings’ parties, where they opened for Sungrazer and The Machine, and then @ Glaz’art (Paris-Fr) with Pentagram and The Socks.
In April 2013 they delivered their first full length album ‘Tibetan monk’. It delivers seven electric trances filled with soft violence. The tracks are like endless journeys, searching ecstasy, guitars riffs loop to generate a liberating power. The musicians bounce off one-another’s inspiration, the destination is unknown, the music is a journey not a product…

…..

After a more than appreciated album and have shared the stage with bands like Pentagram, Yawning Man, Earthless and Baroness, one of the spearheads of the psychedelic / heavy psych french scene returns with “The Violent Mystical Sukuma“, their long awaited second album.

The influences of Domadora are not really found in the names of artists, more in musical trends : free, uninhibited and daring to make music. Of course, you’re gonna easily think rock of the late 60’s and top 70 – but also to proto punk, the freedom of the area, or the heavy rock jam born in the desert. You can also find an influence in some classic pieces including the way to live a journey through successive wave intensities – from Pink Floyd to Fatso Jetson passing Led Zeppelin and Beethoven. Sukuma is a Zulu word meaning elevation, to stand up, tu unbend. A concept that transcends beings in their earthly existence. The rise of consciousness is necessarily mystical and violent. And music is a way to rise. The music of this album tries to bring the listener to a state of trance and to allow him to rise if he lets the door open. The recording started in the Louvre Auditorium and it evolved in a free and natural way like a track of Domadora to be mastered in Wo Fat studios in Dallas Texas. Borders have no relevance in this music.

General Information.

SHIVAS NAT is in a world of blues, garage and acid rock.

Shivas Nat plays their psychedelic garage/blues-rock with an authentic and mind-blowing sound, that under the right circumstances will take you straight back to the colored mists and patterns of the early 1970’s.

SHIVAS NAT was formed in late 2011 by Patrick Lykke Heinsøe (ex-Highway Child) on guitar/vocals and Aleksander Trap-Jensen on drums.
Having existed shortly as a duo, Morten Clod-Svensson (ex-Fuzz Manta) joined in on bass, and later Bjørn Sunesen (Willow’s Tale) stepped in, bringing organ and extra guitar.

During 2012, Shivas Nat marked themselves at the Kildemose Festival and the Copenhagen scene as an interesting band to follow.
After having toured several times across Denmark, Germany, Austria and France in the spring of 2013, the band has now established themselves as an international name, and created a strong base for the future.

“…Shivas Nat plays the type of far out psychedelic hard-rock a fan of retro-rock will inevitably enjoy, and this time the previous problems with audibility were immediately laid to rest as Shivas Nat struck the first chord – absolutely raw power, right from the start. Most of their rather 70’s-like songs featured long instrumental passages in between Patrick’s hauntingly powerful, echo-drenched vocals, thus empowering the overall psychedelic atmosphere…” -Bo Vinberg, Rockfreaks.net

General Information.

Demonauta is a Chilean band with different formations in 2007-2008 after releasing their 2009 demo, the definitive formation is achieved in 2010 with David Véliz Molina (Guitar/Vocals), Miguel Ángel Quezada Zagal (Bass) and Alejandro Sanhueza de la Fuente (Drums), they recorded their debut album “Vol 1” (2011) which allowed them to begin the international recognition, appearing in compilations and obtaining valuable reviews from magazines and specialized sites.

In 2012 the next full length followed, called “Caminando en la luna”. The second full length is a big step forwards: Demonauta never sounded more intense, sharp and to the point. The riffs are simply amazing that mix the intensity of Stoner Metal blended in with the sun-drenched riffs of Desert Rock and Fuzz Rock superbly. One minute absolutely heavy and the next some superb fuzz riffs.

In 2016 they released their last work called “Tierra del Fuego” another step forward, their most personal and ambitious album, showing maturity in the composition and expanding their range of sound, mixing more psychedelic things to their already recognized sound: Oh man, this came out of nowhere from the high plains of the Andes and straight to the heart of any stoner rock listener, So jump on the lama and get moving to this shiny pearl of an album. Tierra del Fuego is their 3rd album and easily their best so far.” (Stoned Meadow Of Doom)

great khan cover

General Information.

The sound has a southern feel to it, but the origin is the Middle East. Greg Buzzer hails from Tel Aviv, Israel and has been the driving force behind Buzzer since 2004, but this time ventures out on his own, delivering a classic set of stoner rock goodness – 7 wonderfully rendered gems that are chock full of monster riffs and blazing solos topped off with Greg’s macho, raspy vocals. This album is aptly named for the great Kha Khan as it resembles an armed campaign that rolls across the land in a thundering, unending roar of sound and vibration, power and portent, destroying all before it, leaving nothing in its wake save quivering masses of demolished victims. There is nothing in history quite like The Great Khan, which in this case is a wonderful thing.

As with all gifted artists and musicians, Greg displays an adept ability for composition, creating songs that upon first listen are hard rock in nature, southern in flavor, but closer inspection reveals songs that are balanced perfectly within the overall melody, allowing hooks and riffs to develop and deliver, and creating room for all instrumental participants to showcase and shape each song with their own exceptional sound.

General Information.

Based in Alkmaar, founding members Nelis Hoogers (guitar, vocals), Gilles Keessen (bass) and Gijs Steenbergen (drums) joined forces in 2003 to form Abe Diddy & The Krautboys. Jelle de Gooyer, contributing blues harp on a number of tracks, began cooperating a year later.

The band released their debut full-lenght album, titled “Save Us” in 2005.
An EP, containing four blues jams and some live recordings, along with a split -7 inch with Dutch stonerdoom legends Toner Low met ears of the public just shortly after that.
All three releases, including the critically acclaimed “Save Us”, were sold out rapidly after their releases.

Autumn 2009 brought up changes – armed with a great rhytmical force, provided by new drummer Jasper van den Broeke (Iedereen Zóôò Jotje), the band began a six month period of intense practicing and finally hit the stages again in spring 2010.

Abe Diddy & The Krautboys, nowadays a classic rock line-up trio are with matured material fierce as ever, equipped with a distinct blend of heavy genres, which is just one of the things that makes their sound unique… technically polished yet a triggered raw force.

thumlock

General Information.

THUMLOCK was one of the best fuzz / stoner / desert rock bands ever to hail from Australia. They released 3 albums plus 2 EPs and a few singles from 1997-2002. Most of their releases have only been released in Australia, so these are impossible to find nowadays. Also their music has never been released on vinyl before… until now!

The press wrote.

Since their formation in Wollongong, Australia in the mid-nineties, Thumlock have harnessed the power of high octane, sci-fi-tinged, THC-fuelled rock. Travelling the well-worn path of east-coast freeways and beer-soaked bars, the quartet has successfully carved out their slice of the classic Australian rock pie.

An independent release in 1997 allowed the band to find their feet in this treacherous landscape and caught the attention of High Beam Music, who distributed Lunar Mountain Sunrise in 1999.

This lengthy EP showcased a young, uncompromising band allowing their creativity to direct the songs, with awe-inspiring results.

In 2000 Emerald Liquid Odyssey was released to an ever-expanding fanbase. Beard of Stars picked up the album for a European release and, locally, it hit ..4 on the Australian Independent Record charts and received Album of the Week in the influential Drum Media. Capitalising upon their continued success Thumlock released two singles from the album, recorded a track for the Blue Cheer tribute, and supported the likes of Hawkwind and Rollins Band.
Sojourns Lucid Magic is the next chapter Thumlock’s epic tale.

From the opening single of Modulator it is all too obvious that their coastal hometown will not be able to contain the passion and the tenacity of Thumlock for much longer.

Again drawing heavily from personal idols Hawkwind and the usual Black Sabbath riffs, Sojourns Lucid Magic brings out the classic subversive Australian rock sound that the band have for so long been teasing us with. Heroes from yesteryear Radio Birdman, The Saints, and the Hard-Ons all share the honour of influencing the next influential band from Australian shores.

Thumlock’s appeal has stretched beyond their genius song-craftsmanship, with their penchant for off-the-wall, science fiction based lyrics. Both Michael Moorecock and Frank Herbert inspire Lough’s words of distant fantasy worlds, time travel and mythological creatures.

Cortez

General Information.

If you’re wondering why Massachusetts heavy rockers Cortez would release their first full-length as a double-vinyl, the answer is simple: Balance.

Balance is at the core of everything Cortez does, whether it’s nailing the equal scale measure of pop catchiness and fuzzed-out heavy rock and roll, or in guitarist Scott O’Dowd’s classy lead work and the sense of rocker soul Matt Harrington and bassist Jay Furlo work into the chorus for a song like “Until We Die.” It’s always in balance, always smooth but scuffed up just right. The album’s 11 tracks hit a nerve in reminding what it is about this kind of music that makes us use the term “classic rock,” but the band never sounds redundant or like they’re trying to be someone more than they’re trying to be themselves.

Cortez played their first show in July 2006 and released their debut EP in 2007 on Buzzville Records. Thunder in a Forgotten Town earned the band their first dose of praise both in print and online, and seemed to hit a nerve with the heavy rock underground. The band’s humble sound rung out like riff rock fans dogwhistling their love to other fans, and Cortez toured regionally to support the EP, and continued to play shows and festivals like the Stoner Hands of Doom fest in Maryland, Maine Stoner Fest and WBCN’s Rock ‘n’ Rumble.

But time goes on, and goes quickly. Soon it was three years since the venerated outfit put Thunder in a Forgotten Town to tape at Cambridge’s famous New Alliance Audio (Scissorfight, Cracktorch, etc.), and then four, and now, five. A 2009 demo with new vocalist Matt Harrington showed that Cortez had grown and developed their songwriting to a level of mastery, and live shows proved it was no fluke. The now-foursome, fronted by Harrington, was the most potent incarnation of Cortez yet. The only thing missing was the band’s first full-length.

Between then and now, O’Dowd and drummer Jeremy Hemond vented some frustration in other projects, but there was no question when it was time for Cortez to reemerge, which they did with all the subtlety befitting the conquistador from whom their moniker comes. Recorded once again at New Alliance Audio, engineered and mixed by Ethan Dussault, mastered by Nick Zampiello and Rob Gonella at New Alliance East and boasting artwork by the venerable Alexander von Wieding, Cortez’s Cortez is two LP’s worth of album on two LP’s worth of platters, and it more than makes up for the five years since their last outing.

Cortez were a different band then. Now, they are wiser, stronger, more cohesive and more confident than ever before. And that balance they strike? Yeah, it sits pretty well alongside your Sabbath, your Deep Purple, your Cactus, your Kyuss and your Roadsaw, but it’s also totally their own – and after all this time, they’re just getting started.
