General Information.

The Sledge … a black belt fuzz machine; a new old group of musicians, getting together in one room, with a mission: To capture the energy from endless hours of jamming and composing. It is hard to categorize the music of The Sledge as heard on their debut album On The Verge Of Nothing. Some might call it stoner, with a mighty dose of proto-metal, and some might call it hard rock with pinches of grunge, old school metal, and robotic riffs. The album is described by early listeners as “quite a sonic ride”, and take the listener through all kinds of instrumentation and experimentation. Inspired by other bands, who do not play a specific genre or style, but play what feels right. But take a listen yourselves and decide.

The Sledge is built on the ashes of Danish fuzz-bomb band Hjortene, who did 5 different releases – all in different physical formats. Since 2004 Hjortene played live all over Scandinavia, supported Valient Thorr, Truckfighters and Fu Manchu and gathered a solid following in Scandinavia. The band felt like going for a fresh start both in terms of a new name and a tweak to their powerful musical output, while maintaining their specific soulful take on rock n’ roll.  “The new songs are way more tuned down, and slower and heavier, but of course you can hear where we come from musically…” says The Sledge.

The debut album from The Sledge On The Verge Of Nothing is captured live in the studio, over two days. All the basic tracks of drums, guitar and bass were done in one room, played live, with the use of no headphones, and no studio windows to obscure the energy; just roaring amplifiers and pounding loud drums. The band wanted to capture the raw feeling of playing live, and be able to feel each other in that room. Later they dubbed vocals, and other details, and invited prominent friends to contribute. Old friend of the band Lorenzo Woodrose (Baby Woodrose, On Trial) is all over the album “he just came, hung out, and delivered… a lot of percussion and harmony vocals”. Bo Morthen from stoner psych legends On Trial did vocals for a blue, paired down track, and having Lorenzo to back him up. “It was like bringing On Trial together for a song again”.

Anders Onsberg Hansen (Baby Woodrose, Spids Nøgenhat) did the recordings in Copenhagen, and for the mixing and mastering, the band brought in some heavyweight champions in the rock business: Matt Bayles (Mastodon, The Sword, Isis) did the mixes in Seattle, and Dave Collins (Soundgarden, Fu Manchu, QOTSA) did the mastering in Los Angeles. The band comments: “We wanted to take everything a step further, and did no compromises in choosing who to work with. We were not setting out to make a classic stoner rock album…and we think you can hear that.”  The result is a hard rocking, grooving and soulful album consisting of eight songs displaying the wide capability of a band true to their roots while exploring the possibilities of rock n’ roll.

The Sledge will release their debut album On the Verge of Nothing on 15th June via German label Kozmik Artifactz on LP and digital formats.

General Information.

IAH is a band formed at the beginning of 2016, in Córdoba Capital, Argentina. The band consists of Mauricio Condon on lead guitar, Juan Pablo Lucco on bass, and José Landin on drums.

Musically speaking, the band is a confluence of experience and heterogeneous exploration, but still well delivered by its three members. The versatility of IAH varies from ambient to hypnotic riffs, from powerful explosions to peculiar details demonstrating a variety of influences as a result of the vast musical knowledge of the ensemble. The work of IAH contains some riffs that could fall within the stoner / doom metal genre, bringing strong influences from post rock and from psychedelic rock. It is the least to say that the freshness of what IAH can offer is a small glimpse into the variety of their musical influences.

Since its birth, the band has achieved some key accomplishments, among which we can mention the album release of 2017 (self-titled) by the record label Necio Records of Peru and edited in digipack. In 2018, a vinyl edition of the late record  will be released by Kozmik Artifaktz, a German record label specialized in the said genre. In addition to that, we can add the great success of the disc on many Youtube channels, especially with the new entire album downloaded in a single video exceeding 250,000 views.

Containing former members of Bomb The Sun and Tabularasa, Estuary Blacks have been quietly going about their business since 2014, and have been playing music together in various outfits since 1998. After releasing  a well received 2 track E.P. in 2016 they have now released their self-titled debut album on Bandcamp. German label Kozmik Artifactz will release the album on vinyl and CD later this year.

“It is a truly magnificent album and simply has to be heard”Echoes & Dust

“This is an essential album to have in your collection. It’s as simple as that”Outlaws Of The Sun

“It’s a beautiful record, it really is, a reminder that stoner rock can still provide a template for grown up, joyous music”Ninehertz

“Prog like complexity, post-rock intensity and stoner-like fuzz all weaved together in a tapestry of moving, atmospheric and at times breathtaking intelligent groove”Desert Psychlist

“Having worked with Kozmik Artifactz with the Bomb The Sun record a number of years ago we were keen work with them again. Our band is a real labour of love and we know that the guys at Kozmik have the same attitude to their work –  plus they did one hell of a job on the BTS vinyl! Hopefully people dig it as much as we do. We haven’t played outside of Wales yet so we’re hoping to get out and play some shows around the UK and Europe if the opportunity arises. After 2 years of writing and recording this record we’re happy to finally get it out there for people to listen to.”

The Wichita fuzzers managed to birth an album that comes on like a churning maelstrom of sound, and continues to punch listeners in the face with a heavy sound that mimics the stoner rock of yore, but is also undeniably their own. This album was made for vinyl, and we can’t wait to lower that needle down on what may be one of the more celebrated releases of this year.

Kansas trio Snowchild throw stoner, psych, blues and hard rock into a big melting pot, chuck in a big dollop of groove and serve it molten hot! Amazing blend of doom styles , yet always maintaining a Sabbath vibe throughout. I also am reminded of Pallbearer at times. This reminds me of the first few Sahg records, but with a tiny bit more doom and quite a bit more blues elements. Like Sahg meets Cream. There is an awesome organ part in track 2, even though Snowchild seems to be and sounds like a power trio. Superb stuff – Stoned Meadow of Doom

Thick as mud, yet as crystal clear as a super moon on a cloudless night, Snowchild releases Age of Change in a haze of fuzzed out psychedelic doom rock – WEAREWICHITA.COM

Be Drunk
By Charles Baudelaire

“You have to be always drunk. That’s all there is to it—it’s the only way. So as not to feel the horrible burden of time that breaks your back and bends you to the earth, you have to be continually drunk.

But on what? Wine, poetry or virtue, as you wish. But be drunk.

And if sometimes, on the steps of a palace or the green grass of a ditch, in the mournful solitude of your room, you wake again, drunkenness already diminishing or gone, ask the wind, the wave, the star, the bird, the clock, everything that is flying, everything that is groaning, everything that is rolling, everything that is singing, everything that is speaking. . .ask what time it is and wind, wave, star, bird, clock will answer you: “It is time to be drunk! So as not to be the martyred slaves of time, be drunk, be continually drunk! On wine, on poetry or on virtue as you wish.”

….

A wonderful poem by Baudelaire that captures the whole point of existence and therefore just as precise captures the soul of this band. This is pure speculation of course and should be regarded as alternate facts.

General Information.

The Ugly Kings are four powerhouse blues rockers drawing influence from an eclectic and dynamic musical background. They offer a powerful injection of energy and emotion to the modern rock scene, formulating what can only be described as power blues. The catchy riffs and foot stomping rhythm lay the foundations for the deep reaching and soulful emotive vocals.

Having 1 mini-album (Of Sins) under their belt already, they are thrilled to sign with Kozmik Artifactz for the release of their debut full length album in early 2018. The Ugly Kings have supported Airbourne on their successful sold out east coast Australia tour in January 2017 with great reviews. They also supported Rival Sons in 2016 on their first Australia headline side-show in Melbourne during the Black Sabbath ‘The End’ World Tour.

“What they delivered was something that I was not ready for. A sound that is almost indescribable. It’s as if a mash up of all my favourite artists had been put into a blender and formed this delicious power sludge bluesy stoner rock. Elements of the classics such as Led Zep, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sabbath, Danzig and a touch of Bowie were mixed in with the modern sounds of The White Stripes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Kylesa & Wolfmother. I was in heaven!” – Rogue, Inc.

“Loud, heavy, slightly-sludgy classic rock meets blues with a modern bend, played by a band that swaggered about the stage with a distinct, but subtle, air of cool. By the end, Sydney was more than happy to learn words on the fly and sing along when the front man held his mic over the mosh. The Ugly Kings are well-versed in the art of restraint, they know when to move and make the crowd get on their feet, and when to step back and let the music do the talking.” – Australian Guitar

“It’s not often you see a band have the crowd so excited and receptive by the second song in the way The Ugly Kings do with such an original sound. Only to be described as The Ugly Kings!” – Ryan O’Keefe (Airbourne Drummer)

“Great show! The Ugly Kings have really got their own thing going on and it rocks! I love all the dynamics, pushing and pulling and then always smashing it out. Great intensity and power.” – Joel O’Keefe (Airbourne Frontman & Lead Guitarist)

“Thick, groove induced chords, deep baritone vocals and a harden-the-fuck-up ethos” – Phantom’s Way

‘Promised Land, a four-minute beast that sounds like the Rival Sons and the Graveltones going head-to-head with John Bonham and Jim Morrison. With multiple riffs and deft twists and turns, it sounds fantastic..’ – SonicAbuse

For fans of The Doors, Jack White, Black Sabbath, The Black Keys, Royal Blood and Rival Sons.

General Information.

In a dark corner of an old dusty metal shop, alongside the menacing blasts of industrial age freight trains, that’s where the sound was forged…

Where the rusted steel of a bygone era meets the ancient spirits of legendary mountains, that’s where the reckoning came to be…

As a whole greater than it’s parts, a beacon arose from the valley below and brought forth a new sense of old ways and a recalibration of doctrine.

In other words…

Geezer lay down thick heavy grooves rooted in the tradition of pre-war slide guitar blues, while simultaneously breaking boundaries through sonic experimentation and improvisation.

2015 has been a year of milestones for Geezer. It all started with the worldwide release the highly acclaimed EP “Gage” on Ripple Music, followed by the release of “The Second Coming Of Heavy: Chapter One”. The first in a series of splits from Ripple Music, it combined Geezer’s heavy blues with the massive riffs of Borracho to create an instant classic.

Geezer also spent much of the year playing live, including a tour of the the American rust belt with Bison Machine. To date, Geezer has shared the stage with bands like Gozu, Wo Fat, Mos Generator, The Golden Grass, The Midnight Ghost Train and High On Fire, among others.

New material is in the works and preparations are being made for a new full length album to be released in Spring of 2016. Always moving forward and venturing into new sonic landscapes, 2016 promises to be the year that Geezer spreads their brand of heavy-psych-blues across the seas to an ever-expanding international audience.

The reviews tell the tale…

“Five tracks of heavy and hazy blues rock drift across desert sands, echoing through moonlit canyons under starry skies, a moreish Peyote for altering the minds of easy riders everywhere.”: Metal Hammer, April 2015

“Geezer’s EP is a work of genius. Stoner Rock of the highest order… Brilliant and highly recommended.” The Sludgelord

“The bass is a leviathan of low end rumble, the blues guitar forging molten riffs of iron and steel, and the drum work massive and purposeful.”: Heavy Planet

“It’s a powerful and soothing expression of nearly a hundred years of music placed upon an altar that a thousand giants built and cherished, and this one may stand the test of time in ways that will continue to define the genre for a long time to come. Yes, it’s that damn good.”: Russell Mullen @ The Ripple Effect

Always Heavy… Totally Righteous… Geezer
